3 tips for better eye health.
There is actually quite a bit of tips that I could offer for better eye health but let’s start out with a few for now, to keep it simple.
Schedule a comprehensive eye exam yearly. But you say that you “see just fine”? I cannot stress this enough: a comprehensive eye exam does more than just check for vision. Sure, your vision is 20/20 but are you at risk for glaucoma? Are your eye pressures high? How do the structures look inside your eye? …and have those structures changed? Part of your comprehensive eye exam involves the Eye Doctor looking at the structures inside, outside and around the eye. An Eye Doctor is measuring, comparing and taking note of each structure inside and out. Are they changing in size, shape or certain characteristics that could be indicative or glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, retinal changes-like a retinal tear or hole? A comprehensive eye exam looks at everything!…vision, eye health and even your overall systemic health. Diabetes is a great example of overall health changes that can be seen in your eyes.
Please, please, please protect your eyes from UV damage by wearing sunglasses. Not only do sunglasses or photochromic lenses like Transitions, protect against UV damage that can lead to premature cataracts, but also sunglasses protect the very delicate skin around the eyes from certain skin cancers.
Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing diabetes or other associated conditions that can lead to vision loss. Aerobic and resistance training, regularly, can have benefits in the prevention and control of diabetes and diabetes-related health complications.
Prevention is key!
Stay happy & healthy!
